Promoting Your Event

Promoting Your Event

Event promotion is key to any successful event. Generally speaking, the more participants and audience, the more successful the show.

In addition to traditional avenues to promoting your event, such as radio, local newspapers, car show flyers, etc, one of the best options to car show event promotion is leveraging social media, car show listing websites and your own website.

Promoting your event on multiple websites and social media accounts is a great way to help get the word out, increase pre-registration and overall awareness of your event.

Car Show Listing websites

For the most part, car show listing websites are regional, focusing on local car shows in a particular region or state. Try searching for ‘car show in Texas’, for instance, to find websites you can post your event to.

There aren’t too many national car show event listing websites that aren’t either really old, don’t update often or simply don’t provide that much information, IMHO.

Here are some national car show listing websites (in no particular order):

Local Car Clubs

Local car clubs can be invaluable for helping get the word out about your car show, and very possibly get more signups for your car show!

Search for local car clubs and reach out to them with a well crafted email or by dropping off a car show poster at their local club office.

Many car clubs are more than interested in helping local car shows and may even partner up with a car show for a good cause.

Car clubs are also filled with men and women who have alot of experience running a car show. So they should be top on your list of people to reach out to for advice, and possibly, more volunteers!

Social Media Posting

Posting on your social media accounts is a great way to get your show info out there and it’s FREE. However, over recent years, posting an event to social media opens the door to potential scammers trying to redirect your participants to ‘register’ with them and thus, steal their money and leave you with a headache.

Here are some key tips when posting an event on social media:

Post the event from an official account for your organization or group:

Always try to post the event from the official organization or group’s social media account, whenever possible. This gives more credibility to the event and that event isn’t just being posted by ‘some person’.

Provide Official Links for Registration/Ticket Sales:

Be sure to clearly provide a direct URL to your Car Show Pro event page or organization’s website for more information and ticket sales. Be sure to clearly identify the link as being the official link.
For example:

We exclusively use Car Show Pro as our trusted partner for registration and ticket sales. Please only use the link provided and do not use links provided by commenters or third parties.

Educate Your Audience About Scammers:

Pin a note or comment at the top of your event listing on the social media platform, or provide information at the top of your event description to warn visitors of the possibility of scammers, and provide a clear way to contact the event through the official website or contact info provided, and not to engage with anyone in the comments section promising to ‘get them registered’ or ‘help them buy tickets’. This is almost certainly a scammer trying to separate the visitor with their money.

Turn Off Commenting:

Commenting on an event is a great way to allow visitors to engage with you and other visitors on your event, but unless you are actively monitoring your event multiple times per day, and can review and control what is commented, it will not take long for a scammer to post something to try and lure away your visitors and cause them financial harm. For the most part, it is just better to disable commenting on an event posting whenever possible.
