People's Choice Voting - Location Unknown Message

Problem

User receives 'Location Unknown' message when trying to vote in People's Choice (similar to below)

The Location Unknown message is displayed if your location cannot be determined while voting in People's Choice Voting.  This message may be displayed for one or more of the following reasons:

  • You have Location Services turned off for your device.
  • You have Location Services turned off for your browser.
  • Your device does not support Location Services.
  • You chose not to allow Car Show Pro to access your location when you were prompted.
  • The location service is unavailable or your location could not be determined.

We use Google geolocation services to determine your location.  Google geolocation utilizes multiple methods to determine your location, including cell towers, GPS and wifi.  Location accuracy improves greatly when multiple sources can be used to accurately determine your location.  While Google geolocation is highly reliable, the service may be temporarily unavailable or your location could not be determined due to poor cellular coverage, lack of wifi nodes or environmental conditions.

Possible Solutions

Here are some suggestions to get you up and running:

  1. If your cellular/wifi connection is weak, try moving to obtain a stronger signal.
  2. Ensure Location Services are turned on for your device and your browser:

    1. Android users (settings menu options may vary depending on your phone manufacturer):
      1. From the Settings menu, select Security & location.  Ensure Location is turned on and verify you have the High Accuracy option selected.
      2. From the Settings menu, select Apps & notifications.  Check App permissions → Location to verify Location permissions are turned on for your browser.
      3. Look for any location service options in your browser.  Often you can control individual websites to allow/deny location permissions.
      4. Consult your phone manufacturer's support documentation for additional support articles.
    2. Apple iOS users:
      1. From the Settings menu, select Privacy.  Verify Location Services is turned on.
      2. Look under Location Services to verify your browser has location services turned on.
      3. Apple iOS does not allow access to the same website-level preferences as the Android operating system.
      4. Consult your phone manufacturer's support documentation for additional support articles.
